Printer-friendly version Officials move lot X meeting up to TuesdayBy Sarah KriselAssistant Campus Editor Students may soon have a place of their own to tailgate. A meeting that was originally scheduled for Oct. 7 will now take place Tuesday. Several days before the Syracuse vs. Purdue home football game, lot X, the west side of Slayter Hill, which has traditionally been a tailgate location for students and recent alumni, was fenced off for parking for John Purdue Club members. Last year, anyone was allowed to park his vehicle on lot X. One could drive up that day and pay $10 to park. Concerns that contributed to the decision included alcohol abuse, underage drinking, public intoxication, illegal activities, inaccessibility for emergency vehicles on the hill and a lack of parking for John Purdue Club members. Students were not informed of the change. The athletics department and Purdue Student Government met informally to discuss possible solutions and determined that a formal meeting will take place Tuesday. Aaron Schnur, president of PSG, said there was no reason to wait for a meeting. The date of the meeting has been changed because there has been a lot of work done behind the scenes. Jay Cooperider, associate athletics director, said that having the meeting sooner rather than later is better because refinements to the plan will be needed. A decision on the location of a tailgating area for stakeholders will be on the table Tuesday at the meeting. Schnur said that even though the athletics department and the Purdue police have worked hard with PSG to come up with a solution, there will be concessions from both sides. Printer-friendly version |
