As a fourth-generation West Lafayette resident and Purdue graduate, State Rep. Randy Truitt has proven his commitment to serve this community and Purdue Students. Charging him of trying to disenfranchise student voters is simply ludicrous. Truitt would not have the honor of representing District 26 if he did not WIN the majority of support from students this past fall. According to the numbers, any suppression of the student vote would have negatively impacted our current state representative on Nov. 4.
Extremist Democrats also fail to point out that Truitt supported the bipartisan agreement which allowed students to vote using their Purdue IDs this past November. He subsequently supports this same system on a statewide level in Indiana. Unfortunately, state Democrats have failed to put in the same bipartisan efforts that our local election board took in order to protect both the integrity of our voting system AND allow students to use their Purdue IDs.
In the future, I ask the College Democrats for more transparency and less spin on factual information. Please put the partisan politics aside. Don’t get bogged down in the same slander that lost your candidate the election this past November. We as students deserve more; we desperately need the leadership that Randy Truitt is providing Purdue students at the state house.
