A West Lafayette City Council District 1 contender will not contest the results of last week’s election.
Ross McMullin, the Republican incumbent, doesn’t believe a costly special election is necessary. He lost the race to Democrat Paul Roales by just four votes.
In a news release, McMullin said he was not happy will several aspects of the election. He outlined several solutions:
– Increased staffing of polling locations.
– Better education of poll workers.
– Improve voter education and ensure voters receive postcards confirming their registration and precinct before Election Day.
“Without these reforms, I fear local elections will continue to be plagued with unnecessary, unrepresentative and undemocratic problems,†he wrote.
Bob Hicks, the Tippecanoe County Republican party chair, has until Friday to contest the race. Last week, he said a recount might not be necessary because the counting process is accurate. He said he was unsure about asking for a special election.
